She was completely shut down after being stabbed twice in the stomach. Now she’s got a Second Chance in life

Chance’s Story

Who can stab a dog?

That too twice?

The moment I heard about “Chance” this was my initial reaction.

How can they do this?

Are they sick?

Can you believe it? At ten years old, she’d lived her entire life without warmth or safety.

And after being stabbed—twice—in the stomach and left to die, she had every reason to shut the world out for good.

But one man gave her a second chance. And in return, she gave him a miracle.

In this post, we will cover the story of Chance and her recovery.

Chance’s Story: From Invisible to Unbreakable

Rescuer Niall Harbison (@NiallHarbison) has seen his share of pain on the streets of Thailand.

He’s spent the last few years caring for street dogs abandoned, abused, or forgotten by the world. But few have shaken him like Chance did.

When Niall met her, she was barely surviving.

Her body was broken—stab wounds deep in her stomach, untreated and infected. But even worse were the mental wounds.

She was frozen in fear. Terrified of every movement. Flinching at kindness. Unable to trust.

Chance didn’t bark. Didn’t move. Didn’t respond. She simply existed, waiting for the world to hurt her again.

Below is a video of her when she couldn’t even look at humans:

Relearning What It Means to Be Alive

For weeks, every simple task—feeding her, touching her, trying to take her for a walk—was a test of trust.

Chance would either freeze or lash out, unsure if the hand reaching toward her came with love or violence.

But Niall didn’t give up. He named her Chance because that’s exactly what he was determined to give her.

And then, something shifted.

Three weeks into the rescue, Niall brought her home. It was the first time in her ten long years that Chance had ever stepped foot inside a house.

And it changed everything.

Take a look at her day and night transformation in just 3 weeks –

Healing, with a Little Help from Hank

Inside her new home, Chance met another dog—Hank—who became her gentle guide to this new world.

With Hank’s help, she learned how to live.

How to walk confidently.

How to eat without fear.

How to feel grass under her paws without scanning for threats.

Slowly, her tail began to rise. Her head lifted. Her steps grew lighter.

Look Into Her Eyes—You’ll See the Difference

The physical scars may never fully fade. But when you look at Chance today, it’s her eyes that tell the real story.

They no longer dart in fear. They no longer avoid contact. They’re open. Curious. Soft.

She is no longer invisible.

The Dog Who Taught Us What a Second Chance Really Looks Like

Chance’s journey is more than just a rescue story. It’s a reminder of how trauma doesn’t just vanish—it’s slowly, carefully rewritten.

Thanks to one man’s patience and one other dog’s friendship, Chance now wakes up in safety.

She knows what love feels like. And she’s living a life that once seemed impossible.
