Your Cat Loves You More Than You Realize: 7 Hidden Signs

Your Cat Loves You

Have you ever wondered whether your cat loves you or not?

Then you’re not alone.

Cats are subtle creatures who don’t like to wear their heart on their sleeves like dogs do.

To realize a cat’s love, you need to focus on nuances, on subtleties.

And once you start realizing these subtle signs, you’ll understand your cat loves you more than you think.

In this article, I’ll share with you the 7 not-so-obvious signs your cat loves you more than you realize.

Some may come as a shock, while others will definitely melt your heart and maybe make you cry a few tears for your cat, so be ready.

1. They look at you, blinking slowly

When your cat is looking at you without blinking, it’s their way of saying, “I love you, hooman.”

Veterinarian Gary Weitzman, author of How to Speak Cats, describes it as “an acceptance gesture”. They do it when they trust you and are absolutely comfortable with you.

Even research published in Nature confirms that slow blinking increases the bond between a cat and their hooman.

2. Love following you around

Ever had your cat trying to enter your bathroom when you’re inside? Or waiting just outside for you?

Or, where you’re moving from kitchen to bedroom, they go with you?

That’s not a coincidence.

It’s about them trying to be near their favorite person. It’s a very strong sign of affection and connection.

3. Bringing you “Gifts”

Did your cat ever bring you someone else’s bra? (mine literally did once, lol)

Or dead animals when you’re sleeping?

That’s their present for you. That’s their way of saying, “Hey, hooman, you’re my family. Here’s a gift for you.”

A veterinary-reviewed article in Catster suggests that cats do this because of “their connection with you, or to show you how good they’re at hunting or to just teach you how to hunt.”

PetMd adds that this behavior combines their hunter’s instinct with their bond and connection with you.

4. Sleeping on you or next to you

Cats only sleep in places where they feel the safest. This again goes back to their hunter’s instinct.

They won’t sleep in places where they can be hunted.

So, if your cat is sleeping next to you or on your lap or on your face (yup, mine sleeps on my face), then it’s safe to say you’re their favorite hooman.

5. Rubbing you or head-butting you

Have you ever had your cat rub you or headbutt you or just put their head against yours?

That’s them putting their scent on you.

They’re marking you with their scent from glands around their cheeks and forehead. It’s both ownership and affection rolled into one gentle gesture.

6. Exposing their belly to you

This is a common factor for both dogs as well as cats.

The belly is one of the most sensitive and exposed areas for cats. And if they’re exposing it to you that means they trust you blindly and they know you’ll never hurt them.

This is an act of pure confidence in you.

7. Making soft purrs in your presence

Yes, cats purr when they’re content, but they also purr when they want to bond with you.

When your cat purrs while resting beside or on you, they’re signaling comfort, security, and affection.

Final Thoughts

Cats are aloof creatures, unlike dogs.

They won’t jump on you, wag their tail, or give their 420-watt smile every time they look at you.

But if you can understand their subtle signs, you’ll realise they’re one of the most loving and caring creatures ever.

So the next time your cat blinks slowly, brings you a little “gift,” or purrs softly while resting near you, remember: it’s their way of telling you that you are their person. That they love you more than anyone in this world.

And that bond is truly priceless.
