Natalino Waited Months at the Shelter. Then One Evening, a Woman Sat Beside Him

Natalino rescue story

When someone approached Natalino behind an abandoned factory, the little dog wagged his tail. It was a bitterly cold night, and even moving took effort. A volunteer brought him to a shelter.

Natalino spent months there as families came in and went home with other dogs. One evening, after the shelter had closed, a woman sat down beside him.

Natalino was about five years old when he was found. He was thin, his front legs curved outward, and the shape of his spine made it hard for him to move.

According to the rescue account credited to @projetoespeciaisdo_thor and shared on the Pets In Love YouTube channel, veterinarians found that Natalino had a rare genetic disorder. They explained that surgery could only do so much for him.

When a dog has trouble moving, a veterinary assessment helps determine which kinds of physical therapy may be suitable. As VCA Animal Hospitals explains, “The choice of modality depends on a thorough assessment of your pet’s health”.

For Natalino, much of the care described in the video came down to everyday things, like having someone nearby when he needed to eat, drink, or move around. The narrator described what that would take in a home. “He needed someone willing to help him live comfortably, safely and with dignity”.

Natalino had trouble moving that evening, but he looked toward the woman as she sat beside him. The video’s narration describes her wondering how much longer he might spend at the shelter before someone took him home.

The decision came that evening. The good woman said, “That night I decided to bring him home”.

Natalino needed help eating, drinking, and getting from one room to another. The woman set up a soft bed where he could rest. On nights when he cried in his sleep or trembled with fatigue, she spoke softly until he settled.

If your dog has trouble moving, watch how easily they can get to their bed and settle into it. In its home-care guidance for older pets, the American Animal Hospital Association recommends one simple step. “Provide good bedding that is adequately padded”.

As Natalino settled in, the woman learned what caught his attention. He liked listening to the rain, even when it turned into a storm. He barked at birds outside the window and sometimes picked out stuffed animals bigger than he was.

If you’re looking for a quiet way to play with your dog indoors, try letting them sniff out a treat in a spot they can reach easily. As the American Kennel Club explains, “Scent games allow dogs to channel their love of sniffing while enriching their minds.”

Natalino still needed help getting around. But morning after morning, he tried to make his way across the room to greet the woman who’d brought him home. She let him take his time.

Share Natalino’s story to thank the volunteer who brought him to safety, the veterinary team who cared for him, and the woman who made room for him in her home.
