Two Kittens Were Found Too Weak to Cry. Weeks Later, They Were Playing Together

Yueyue and Wuwu rescue story

The orange kitten tried to open his mouth when someone called to him. Beside him, a tiny black kitten lay almost completely still.

Their finder had only stepped outside to take out the trash. Near a bin were two cold, dirty kittens with barely enough strength to respond. The black kitten’s breathing was so faint it was difficult to notice.

The person brought both kittens home, despite having little experience caring for cats.

That evening, the pair kept seeking each other out. Weeks later, they would be chasing toys and wrestling beside a bed.

Between those moments came worried attempts to get them eating, help from the household and a slower adjustment for the kitten who still hid when people approached. Their progress began with small changes, long before either was ready to play.

The First Night Began With Worry

According to the rescue account shared on the Paws Nook YouTube channel, both kittens felt stiff from the cold. The account does not explain how they came to be beside the bin.

Their finder wondered whether they had become separated from their mother or were unwell. With no confirmed explanation, the immediate concern was how to help them.

“I was feeling very anxious, afraid that I wouldn’t be able to save them or take proper care of them”, the rescuer recalled.

At home, the kittens remained weak. Their fur was dirty and carried parasites, and their caretaker began trying to clean them and keep them warm.

For readers who find a barely responsive kitten, this is a moment to seek veterinary help rather than wait for improvement. The National Kitten Coalition states, “A severely lethargic kitten will need immediate veterinary care.”

The account does not document a veterinary diagnosis for either kitten. What their caretaker described was the black kitten beginning to move a little, followed by both becoming more responsive.

There was still plenty to worry about. But their finder could now see small changes.

They Kept Moving Back Toward Each Other

As the kittens were being dried, the orange kitten crawled onto his black companion. When the pair were moved apart, the black kitten edged closer again.

Their finder lined a cardboard box with an old sweater, giving them somewhere soft to rest together.

“But now they have a home, and as long as they can hang on, I won’t give up on them”, the rescuer said.

Keeping that promise meant learning while caring for them. Their caretaker searched for information, gathered supplies and tried to get the frightened pair to eat.

At first, neither accepted what they were offered. Their finder kept trying and watching for a change.

Eventually, both began eating on their own. The orange kitten ate more readily, while his black companion waited until he was less closely watched.

After the worry of bringing them home, seeing them eat was another step forward.

By Day Three, Their Personalities Were Showing

The orange kitten was named Yueyue. The black kitten became Wuwu.

As Yueyue gained energy, he grew curious about the room beyond their box. He peered over its sides and kept trying to climb out.

Wuwu remained cautious. He hissed when people approached, retreated into corners and often stayed close to Yueyue.

Both kittens had needed rescue. As they grew stronger, their comfort around people developed at a different pace.

That can be a difficult part of caring for a frightened kitten. A person may be eager to offer affection while the kitten still avoids their hand.

VCA Animal Hospitals explains, “Shy or sensitive kittens take extra patience and time.”

For Wuwu, progress would become visible through what he was willing to do nearby. At first, that meant watching while Yueyue investigated their surroundings.

Later, he would join him.

The rescuer’s boyfriend helped with cleaning. He and his father also assembled a larger enclosure for the pair.

Their care settled into daily work. There were meals to prepare, bedding to change and a space to keep clean as the kittens grew.

Yueyue became increasingly playful. Wuwu still held back, but he paid attention to his companion.

One day, Yueyue began playing with a homemade cat teaser. Wuwu watched its movement from a distance.

Then he joined the game.

He had moved from watching the toy to playing alongside Yueyue. For a caretaker accustomed to seeing him retreat, it was a change worth noticing.

By Day 12, Wuwu Was Playing Nearby

Wuwu was taking part instead of staying back and watching.

Play also has a place in kitten care beyond entertainment. In its foster manual, Best Friends Animal Society explains, “Play time provides stimulation, encourages socialization and releases excess energy.”

For someone caring for a shy kitten, play can become part of spending time together. In Wuwu’s case, it gave his caretaker a way to notice his growing willingness to remain nearby.

By day 12, the rescuer described finding the kittens chasing each other beside the bed. Wuwu kept playing even while his caretaker stood close.

Earlier, an approaching person had sent him into hiding. Now he could remain where he was and continue the game.

Later, both kittens began approaching their rescuer for food, meowing together.

The pair who had barely responded when found were now making themselves heard at mealtimes.

By Day 40, Their Days Looked Different

By day 40, the caretaker reported that both kittens had visibly grown.

Yueyue remained energetic and curious. Wuwu became more affectionate, and their days included chasing balls, wrestling with each other and sleeping after play.

The later updates showed them still together, interested in toys and comfortable enough to rest at home. Those scenes describe their progress, though the account does not confirm a formal adoption or veterinary clearance.

Their progress had unfolded through small, observable moments. They began eating. Yueyue tried to climb out of their box, and Wuwu stayed nearby instead of hiding.

Then came the scene that would have been difficult to picture on that first evening. Both kittens were chasing each other beside the bed.

The orange kitten who had struggled to respond now had the energy to play. His black companion, once almost motionless, was right there with him.

If Yueyue and Wuwu’s story touched your heart, consider sharing it to thank the people who keep showing up long after the first day of rescue.
